On March 2, 2017, at Wintersport – We would like to officially thank everyone for coming out to tonight’s Alumni Game! With everyone’s help, we raised $1350 for Rick Bennett!!! This includes the sign-ups, sale of merchandise, donations and Harvey LaBlanc very generously donating his 50/50 winnings to Rick! Thank you very much!
It was a fantastic game with 34 players giving it their all in a back and forth contest. We’d like to thank everyone for attending as we had a lot of friends and family in the stands watching. We’d also like to thank everyone for donating their time and energy to make this game happen including Rick Gallagher who worked with the SHSHL to get the ice slot donated to us and getting the game started, Andrew Andrijiwskyj and his family for managing sign-ups, the table at the front door and photos, David Andrzejewski for donating his time and energy to be our referee, Greg Brace for managing the clock during the game (and the two helpers in the box with him), and Kevin Meyers for making up jerseys for the game on the FB page for some alumni.
Again, thank you to everyone. If you could not attend the game, you can still donate to Rick Bennett’s GoFundMe page which is located over here: https://www.gofundme.com/support-ricks-recovery
There is also a Beef and Beer for him this Saturday night.
Also Jack Forbes netted this years MVP awards with a few key goals! Congratulations Jack!
Photos from tonight’s game can be found here, 1400 photos. I promise I will cut this down to the top 50 photos for the FB page. https://greatsave9.smugmug.com/…/2017-03-02-Archbishop-Woo…/
Thank you very much!
The Archbishop Wood Ice Hockey Team held its fourth annual Alumni ice hockey tournament on Saturday April 2’nd 2005 at Wintersport Ice Arena in Willow Grove. Three teams comprised of over 40 skaters participated in the alumni versus alumni round-robin format. The wide range of graduation year’s of those participating included current and former Wood hockey players from 1975 thru 2005. The Gold Alumni “Sophomore” team representing graduation year’s 1984 thru 1991 won the tournament in overtime of the final game over the Black Alumni “Senior” team comprised of graduates from 1975 thru 1983. Joe Magarity ‘ABW Class of 1983 was named the “Senior Division MVP” and also was given the Joel Gingras/Kevin Cluckey Alumni Tournament MVP award. Rick Gallagher ABW Class of 1988 was named the “Junior Division” MVP and James Pisaturo ABW Class of 2003 was named the “Sophomore Division” MVP.
After the game all of the players and their families enjoyed a post game dinner and party at Mike’s York Street in Warminster. This year the club paid tribute to former standout coach Glen Meyers and thanked him for his contributions in coaching and helping to build the Ice hockey club in its early days. Former players Frank Rego, Kevin Meyers, Johnathan Gingras, Rick Gallagher and John Menarde all paid tribute to former coach Glen Meyers and presented him with a special plaque in honor of his many contributions to the program.
The team also recognized Ron Fetch ’75, with the “Senior Participant Award” and Ron spoke to the group about the club’s first season in 1975 to commemorate the 30th anniversary as a team sport at Archbishop Wood. Also presented awards were Joe Uchinat ’92, Joe Magarity ’83, Kevin Magarity ’78 and Brian Magarity ’75 who all received the “Spirit and Contribution Award” for their extra efforts in making this years event so successful.
With the funds raised from this year’s event the Ice Hockey Alumni will be increasing the amount of the scholarship fund with the school that is given out annually to an eligible participant of the current ice hockey program. The Alumni were proud to award the first scholarship in December of 2004 to Kevin McMinn who is a member of the class of 2005.
All former Wood Ice Hockey players are invited to participate in next years’ event, which is tentatively slated for April of 2006 and plans are also in the works for an Ice Hockey Alumni golf outing in September of 2005. For more information please visit the Alumni link on the team website @ www.woodhockey.com or contact John Menarde class of 1986.

On April 12, 2004, Thanks to everyone who contributed and participated to make this years alumni tournament an overwhelming success. (please see attached photo) Not only did we have a great time at Winterport and the post game party, we raised just over $3800 thru the proceeds from a raffle and the game. With those funds we will be able to officially create the “Archbishop Wood Alumni Ice Hockey” scholarship fund that will be given out annually to a student at Wood who is a member of the current ice hockey program. Congratulations to Rick Gallagher ’88 for being named MVP of this years tournament for the undefeated Green Alumni team comprised of former players from 1984 thru 1989. At the dinner former players Charlie Keener ’75, John Scavilla ’76 and Ray Reinl Jr. ’76 presented a special plaque to the founder of the Ice Hockey program at Wood, Mr. Raymond B. Reinl. The team also recognized Charlie Keener ’75 with the “Senior Participant Award”, Frank Reago ’81 with the “Spirit and Contribution Award” and Charlie Geib ’82 with the “Most Offensive Equipment” award.
Thanks again to everyone for making this event such a huge success and we look forward to having more former players join us next year. Even if you don’t play anymore please consider stopping by the rink or joining us the post game dinner. Any suggestions for next years games are welcome and appreciated. Please spread the word to ALL former players and remember that everyone is welcome. If someone has not been contacted it is because we don’t know how to reach them.
