Coaches VS Cancer Tournament

November 1, 2012 – The Archbishop Wood Vikings took home the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament Championship Cup Friday night at the Rink at Warwick. Wood defeated a strong and talented Central Bucks South team 3 to 1 to win the tournament. Mike Anzideo scored two goals and a clinching goal by Bailey Nixon set the stage for some superior goaltending by Johnny Capinas. Capinas was repeatedly tested by C. B. South and turned away 34 Titan shots. C. B. South, the defending Suburban High School Hockey League AA Champions, battled valiantly to the final whistle.

Both teams played two nights earlier in the tournament with South defeating the Vikings 5-4. Capinas had another strong game stopping 43 shots on goal. Two goals by Pat Cavanaugh; as well as goals by Anzideo, and fellow line mate Shane Lydon, were not quite enough to defeat the Titans.

Wood qualified for the championship game by defeating Central Bucks East 7 to 3; William Tennent 6-1 and North Penn 6-4 in earlier preliminary matches.

The Archbishop Wood Ice Hockey Club would like to thank the parents, families, friends and fellow students, for supporting the team in this tournament. We would especially like to thank everyone for supporting the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament and helping to battle this terrible disease.
